In a podcast interview with Dr. Moira Gunn, Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus talks about how "social businesses" and micro-finance are pulling millions of people in his home country Bangladesh and elsewhere out of poverty.
Dr. Yunus submits that people are born with equal skills, but that it is the system which keeps many in poverty. He believes that human beings have more dimensions than "profit maximization" alone. Two-thirds of the world’s population are too poor to receive credit from the established banking system. However, with micro-finance solutions, people are already rising above the poverty line at an accelerating pace.
